Shooo weee! We threw our favorite FOUR year-old a Superhero/Avengers party this weekend and this mama is worn out. We found some easy, fun and budget-friendly superhero birthday party games to play this year that were a hit!
I tell you what… do not sleep on Dollar Tree. They are an inexpensive place to find game accessories, prizes, fun candy and of course, the serving ware. Everything is $1 – you cannot get more budget friendly than that. I purchased all of my game materials there for this party. Dollar Tree, just let me know when you want to sponsor folks, okay? haha. Some of y’all saw my shopping experience on my Instagram stories:
Since we were doing the party as a cookout at our house, I wanted to incorporate some games for Teddy and the kids so it felt like a birthday party, and not just a regular ol’ cookout.
We had kids ages 20 months to 12 years-old playing and they were all a hit across the ages. Google party game ideas and you’ll be bombarded with options. I narrowed it down to the five games below that were super easy for set up and play.
1. Rescue Mission
I was most worried about how this one would work “live” but it ended up being a huge hit. I purchased eight small superhero figurines from Dollar Tree (two sets of four) and froze them in small paper cups (paper is easier to cut off/remove after they’re frozen) in our basement freezer for a couple of days:
Each team had four superheroes to rescue using water guns with warm water. Whichever team defrosted all four superheroes first, won! We had a large bowl of warm water and extra water guns filled and ready to go so when they ran out of water, they could run over and switch their empty water gun for a pre-filled one.
You could play this individually with each kid having their own superhero to “rescue” instead of teams, but we had a wide range of kids and wanted to make it as “even” as possible.
Supplies needed:
– Small Superhero Figurines
– Cheap paper cups
– Water Guns
– Tray (to avoid mess when melting)
2. Hulk Smash
Next up, was a quick, fun “punching” or “smashing” game to get to a prize. I hot-glued cups to a thick foam board painted green. Next, I filled each cup with candy. Using green tissue paper cut into squares, I then covered each cup tightly and secured with a rubberband. Tada!
Supplies needed:
– Thick Foam Board (painted green, if you’d like)
– Plastic cups (make sure the opening is large enough for a kid’s hand)
– Candy or Prizes
– Green Tissue Paper
– Rubber bands
3. Web Shooting Practice
You cannot have superhero birthday party games without silly string, right? I used black foam board and a silver sharpie pen to draw spider web targets. I drew on both sides of two boards just in case we needed to start with a blank slate, but we only ended up using one side of each. We lined up the kids and each one had their own can of silly string. We let them spray for about 3-5 seconds each and then switch turns.
Supplies needed:
– Thick Black Foam Board (posters would work fine, if you could secure to a flat wall/surface)
– Silver Sharpie Pen or Paint
– Silly String
4. Shield Target Practice
For this one, I used red frisbees and taped a print of Captain America’s shield to color. I had big plans to let Teddy color these but he had zero interest… I should’ve just printed colored versions of the shield. We ended up putting this activity at the start of the obstacle course. Pretty simple activity, two teams have to get their shields in the basket before moving on to the obstacle course.
Supplies needed:
– Baskets or Buckets (I used small laundry baskets from Dollar Tree)
– Red Frisbees
– Markers or Paint
5. Defuse the “Bombs”
Alas, another super easy game/activity. I blew up about 20 ish black balloons and put candy in about half of them. We set a timer for 30 seconds and told all the kids they had to defuse the “bombs” (pop them – cover your ears!) using only their hands. This one was quick but ended up being a hoot.
Supplies needed:
– black balloons
Bonus: Obstacle Course
This one could easily be turned into a set activity, but we preferred to have it up during the whole party for the kids to run around and play however they’d like. We used our existing playset and just set up this little tunnel for them to crawl under and you’d think we spent $100 at an amusement park. I used thin tomato stakes we had in the barn that fit into the pool noodle perfectly. I snapped them in half so they were about a foot in length. You could just use a stick and it would work the same.
Supplies needed:
– pool noodles
– stick/tomato stake
Ta-Da! These were all fun and super easy superhero birthday party games to create and play. You can find these materials at a local dollar store or Walmart. Comment to let me know if you try any of these or any others!
See y’all on the ‘gram!
